Our newest addition - Verne the turtle!
We have all been busy with school this week. It's going really well! Everyone is working very hard, as you can see! In the picture, the kids are making lapbooks for book report projects. Andy is doing so much of his work independently - go Andy! Zach has started on cursive writing - he is doing great, and is very excited! And Maggie is really doing well, especially in history. History seems to be one of her favorite subjects. We had an "early release day" yesterday (Hee hee!). We went to chapel with David for Southeastern Seminary's convocation. It was a wonderful service - President Akin preached about missions, a topic near and dear to our family. As we were going back to the car, we went through the missions building on campus. The kids love to look at a map they have there that shows the percentage of evangelical Christians and the presence of churches in areas all over the world. The kids know that the black areas mean that there are no evangelical Christians, no churches, and no Christian materials there. Zach noticed that most of Greenland is black, and decided that he is going to go to Greenland and tell people about Jesus. Too sweet! Since we personally know two missionary families, I think the kids see going overseas to be missionaries as so do-able! It's very cool to see their awareness of the need for missionaries!
About Verne the turtle - the kids and I (Lisa) were in Goodwill yesterday (a seminary family's favorite store, you know! Hee hee!) and Zach came across this turtle in a bin. He still had the tags on him - very exciting! Zach bought him for $2.00 with some birthday money, and the rest is history! He has become Zach's best buddy! Welcome to the family, Verne!
